BC3's "Breakfast Briefings with the City" series is made possible through the generous support of Blue Shield of California and Pacific Gas & Electric
On January 23, BC3 hosted a "Breakfast Briefing with the City” featuring Roger Kim, Senior Advisor on the Environment to Mayor Edwin M. Lee. Mr. Kim started in his role in the summer of 2013. Previously, he served as the Executive Director of the Asian Pacific Environmental Network, where he led cutting-edge organizing and coalition-building efforts to win several state and local legislative and ballot campaigns for environmental justice, climate solutions, affordable housing, jobs, and renewable energy.
Mr. Kim opened the meeting with an overview of how the Mayor’s Office plans to work address climate change. Specific topics included approaches to: improving energy efficiency in commercial buildings; establishing a residential PACE financing program; overcoming barriers that prevent tenants from benefiting from renewable energy or energy efficiency upgrades; increasing the uptake of electric vehicles; reducing waste sent to landfills; and advancing climate adaptation planning in San Francisco. Throughout his presentation, Kim emphasized the critical importance of pursuing strategies that reflect and benefit all of San Francisco’s diverse communities.
Following his remarks, Mr. Kim fielded questions and conversed with attendees about their organizations’ climate and sustainability goals. The event concluded with high hopes for a year of a new year of climate initiatives built on collaboration between the local business community and the City of San Francisco.
