Breakfast Briefing with SFMTA's Director of Transportation
At BC3’s third “Breakfast Briefing”, Climate Leadership circle members attended a meeting with SFMTA’s Director of transportation Ed Reiskin. Director Reiskin discussed the goals of MTA and some of the problems the city faces today in public and private transportation. Members learned about the current status of San Francisco’s transit system, and ideas and plans on how businesses can encourage alternative forms of transportation for their employees.

BC3 hosted the second "Breakfast Briefings with the City" for Climate Leadership Circle members, prospects, and sponsors. BC3 hosted the first new "Breakfast Briefings with the City" for Climate Leadership Circle members, prospects, and sponsors. Breakfast attendees included sustainability directors at the largest local companies. At the meeting, participants learned about the past, present, and future of sustainability in San Francisco from Board of Supervisors President David Chiu and SF Environment Director Melanie Nutter, including information on new efforts to green the city, toxics reduction initiatives, energy efficiency in commercial buildings, transportation and much more.

Mayor's Green Economic Forum
On May 25, Mayor Lee spoke at the Green Economic Forum about San Francisco’s climate action plan and accepted letters from five community advisory panels. Each of the five panels met for three months to discuss opportunities for public and private organizations to work together to address climate change. Each panel summarized their findings and presented their recommendations with letters delivered to Mayor Lee.

Over 80 BC3 members and non-members gathered at the San Francisco Ferry Building for a workshop on green transportation solutions for businesses in the Bay Area. A diverse selection of 14 speakers presented information on converting company fleets to green vehicles, government clean transportation initiatives, and resources for offering ‘alternative commuting’ options for business employees. Attendees also networked and mingled while admiring a selection of alternative fuel vehicles.

Electric Vehicles: Innovations, Incentives, and Infrastructure 
On November 23, BC3 and non-BC3 members gathered for a workshop on electric vehicles. The event was co-sponsored by the Business Council on Climate Change, California Center for Sustainable Energy, San Francisco Clean Cities Coalition, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and was a one-stop shop for information on the roll-out of electric vehicles in the Bay Area. Presentations included details on the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, local utility programs and air district programs, and build-out of California's electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

A Federal Climate Policy Update
On June 28th, BC3’s Federal Climate Policy Update was held at Gap Inc. at 2 Folsom Street. Audience members enjoyed an interactive, fast-paced discussion on a range of topics. On June 23rd, BC3’s June Networking Event was held at The Green Zebra in Crocker Galleria following BC3-BAC Electric Vehicle Project Team Kick-Off meeting. The evening began with a discussion of the future of electric vehicles seen through presentations from Bob Hayden with SF Environment, Michael Jones with Coulomb Technologies, and  Andrew Michael with the Bay Area Council. After the meeting, the June Networking Event began where EV meeting participants were able to mingle with members and guests of the BC3 community, discussing electric vehicles, federal climate legislation, and the private sector’s role in affecting climate change.

Fighting Carbon Emissions One Drop at at Time
On February 19, 2009 BC3 members joined Tom Ash, Director of Conservation for HydroPoint Data Systems, and David Zetland, S.V. Ciriacy-Wantrup Postdoctoral Fellow in Natural Resource Economics and Political Economy at U.C. Berkeley in a discussion of the impact of water consumption on the environment and climate change. Part 2 of Energy Efficiency Seminar Series: Introduction to Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning
On February 10, 2009 ARUP sent Cole Roberts, Senior Consultant, and Afaan Naqvi, Engineer, to present an introduction of HVAC management for small and large businesses alike. Kathleen Hannon, Senior Project Manager of San Francisco Energy Watch, concluded the event with a discussion of San Francisco's incentive programs aimed at increasing energy efficiency. About 20 BC3 members attended, including engineers who now plan on implementing HVAC-associated cost and energy savings in their facilities.

BC3 Networking Event - Over 60 BC3 Members Exchange Ideas for New Administration
On January 21, 2009 Arup hosted a large group of BC3 members with the goal of networking and conversing about which environmental policy changes are expected of the Obama Administration. After a brief introduction of Janine Kubert, BC3's new Executive Director, and a short presentation by Arup's John Eddy, the group filled up an entire wall with hopes for the upcoming years.

BC3 Semi-Annual Full Members Meeting - October 2008
On October 27, 2008 the BC3 held its Fall Full Membership Meeting at the Gap Headquarters building in downtown San Francisco. The meeting’s broad theme was innovation, where members were encouraged to share their experiences about reducing carbon emissions. After a brief introduction from Advisory Committee co-chairs Jennifer Kass and Laura Rodormer, Kindley Walsh-Lowler of the Gap welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Building Internal Support for your Sustainability Program
On Wednesday October 15, 2008 the BC3 hosted an event titled “Building Internal Support for your Sustainability Program.” The event took place in the offices of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission, and was presented by Kathleen Gilligan and Karen Janowski of EcoStrategy Group and Allison Quaid of Creative Eco-Catalysts. Gilligan and Janowski discussed ways to “sell” sustainability plans to upper level executives.

The event, which took place in the offices of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), was introduced by Allison Quaid of Creative Eco-Catalyst and led by BCDC Executive Director Will Travis.

Energy-Efficiency Seminar Series Part 1: Lighting for Offices and Homes
On Monday, September 15, the Business Council on Climate Change and PG&E co-presented a seminar on energy-efficient lighting for offices and homes. The seminar, led by the SF Department of the Environment’s Alena Gilchrest and PG&E’s Ryan Stroop, was hosted by PG&E’s Pacific Energy Center, a state-of-the-art facility featuring lighting simulations and demonstrations. Stroop educated attendees about the qualification, quantification, and diversity of light through a series of interactive demonstrations and answered questions about PG&E policy and energy-efficiency incentives.

Energy Efficient Computing Seminar
This seminar addressed energy efficient computing and was the first installment of a series on energy efficiency. Representatives from PG&E, Block Data Systems, and San Francisco Energy Watch put computer energy consumption and potential cost savings into perspective and detailed ways to reduce energy use.  Solutions include simple measures, such as using the power setting software on a PC, as well as software and hardware additions that assist with power management throughout your entire network.  Future events in this series will focus on different ways your business can become more energy efficient.

Green Lease Language Seminar
This BC3 event was co-sponsored by Pankow Builders at PG&E's Energy Center on Howard Street in Downtown San Francisco. The seminar was on green leases in commercial real estate, and was the first installment of a series on green lease language. Industry leaders from BOMA, Navigant Consulting, and the environmental law firm Wendel, Rosen Black & Dean spoke about the basic tenets of green leasing. The panel explored fundamentals of a green lease, discussing owner and tenant- perspectives, cost implications for "greening" a lease, and how to structure negotiations between parties, addressing current and future legislation on this increasingly popular subject.
