We're hiring for an executive director!
The Business Council on Climate Change (BC3) is a San Francisco Bay Area focused public-private partnership between businesses and local government that works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through collaboration and direct action. We provide a platform for business-to-government collaboration on projects that support the achievement of local climate goals, such as increasing electric vehicle adoption, providing private sector feedback on proposed actions under the climate action plan, and facilitating the creation of a green tenant toolkit to enhance landlord-tenant engagement on sustainability. BC3 is co-located at the San Francisco Department of Environment.
The BC3 Executive Director is currently the sole paid staff member of the BC3 network. Overall policy direction for BC3 is set by the Director in conjunction with an all-volunteer Advisory Committee, which meets monthly. To provide additional support for the program, the Director manages a small team (1-3) of volunteer interns hired through the BC3’s Climate Action Intern program.
Working closely with members, non-profit and governmental partners, and the Advisory Committee, the Director is responsible for understanding and fulfilling commitments to member companies and organizations and is in charge of daily operations, fiscal management, and administrative oversight of the BC3 network and programs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
MEMBERSHIP SERVICES & EVENTS: Work to consistently improve the BC3 member experience; organize and run special events and member meetings; develop relationships and interact with members; identify member interests and work to connect members to desired resources or organizations; operate with an “ethic of service.”
DEVELOPMENT & FUNDRAISING: Raise funds required to support the BC3 program: secure sponsorships, generate additional opportunities for revenue growth, apply for and manage grants, track finances and regularly report fiscal performance to BC3 Advisory Committee.
CONTENT DEVELOPMENT: Develop special projects and one-time events that support BC3 in its mission of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Work closely with the City and County of San Francisco, nonprofit partners, and member technical experts to identify innovative pilot projects that support businesses and government in their mutual goals of climate protection. Coordinate, plan and execute monthly events on climate-related topics as identified by the BC3 membership.
COMMUNICATIONS: Communicate achievements strategically with members, partners, and friends of BC3; develop marketing campaigns for special projects; create quarterly BC3 newsletter; communicate using social media and with the press as appropriate; manage and maintain the BC3 website (Weebly platform).
BRAND DEVELOPMENT: Maintain and increase the profile, reputation, stature, and visibility of the organization in the Bay Area. Act as spokesperson and advocate for the organization at both BC3 and non-BC3 events.
REPORTING: It is the responsibility of the Director to report progress and vet decisions with the two Advisory Committee Co-Chairs and to engage the overall Advisory Committee members in decision making and policy direction.
